I never knew there was something called video portrait until a few days ago when I stumbled on it, and so I thought I’d share it with you all.
What is a video portrait? A video portrait is a moving image portrait or a form of portrait where your image is in motion. Video portraits in their actual sense involve a person or group filmed while looking at the lens for a couple of seconds. This may be created within a studio or neutral environment, or in a setting that says something about the person themselves, their personality, or their experience.
So how do you shoot your video portrait or what ways can you shoot a video portrait? Below, I have listed a few things you should take into consideration when you want to shoot a video portrait.
PLANNING: Basically everything starts with planning, however, you might not need to be extremely detailed about it on paper but having a mental view of how you want to shoot and just penning down few shot angles, puts you at an edge. This is to help you organize your shoot ahead, also in your planning, you may need to scout for locations that would fit into the mood or vibe you want to create.
SHOOTING: You definitely need a model to interpret your creative ideas; so once you get the model, you will need to get acquainted with them, and also lay some basic rules as well as explain the project to them. Note that not all models are experienced or proactive, so you need to carry them along with your workflow. To make things easier for them, you may need to find something relatable for the model to flow with.
EDITING: When shooting video portraits, let the visual correspond or fit the music to tell a better story; let every movement of your model fit the chosen song. This allows the model to be very expressive which is to your own advantage as well. When editing, try to blend in every element in your shoot; infuse all necessary transitions.
Kindly share your experiences and how do you shoot your video portrait.
