In 2015, very few people could relate to the brand Godox; they made relative inexpensive lighting gear and modifiers for photographers but over the years, the brand has evolved into a household name with some of the best artificial light sources on the market and now, they are taking it a step forward by naturally branching into the cinematography space. So how did Godox do it? Well, the story begins with the launch of the famous AD600 rechargeable strobe in late 2016.
Ever since then, the brand has been daring and explored various lighting options for all possible budgets and scenarios. Whilst most brands like Profoto and WestCott lighting have simply focused on delivering to the photography sector, Godox has taken the leap and ventured into the cinematography space with new innovative continuous lights and RGB filler lights for all scales of production and even photography, the vision board of the company and product releases show an understanding of the market and a desire to cater to the need of both high end, big budget photography firms, and individuals whilst also providing options for the little guys who are just starting and quite don’t have the budget to blow on a $1,000 on-camera speedlight (I’m talking about you Profoto A1 series).
Currently, there’s a host of Godox microphones on the market (the latest being the Godox VDS M2), and the reviews range from “its okay to its phenomenal”. The Godox brand has positioned itself as the one-stop brand/shop for every camera related with the exception of actual cameras or lenses.
Godox went from making small, generic flashes to becoming a photo industry giant in less than a decade leaving no doubt that with the right vision and great products, it is possible to break into the global spotlight and put your stamp on history.
