Not many of us might have started out with the intention of making money from our skills, but with time we had a change of heart, especially when we have spent a lot of time and funds improving those skills. I know there are people who are into filmmaking for the love of it, but if you have ever considered making this a career then you need to start charging for this skill.

There are two major categories of filmmaking and each of these categories contains different titles with different positions.

  • FILMMAKER: These are those who are in charge of and create the project from scratch. They are the creatives that work on the idea: the producers, directors, creators, they’re in charge of the narrative scripts, they plan what happens to the project at large.
  • FILM WORKERS: They are basically the support system throughout the project by making sure that all the required elements for the project come out great. They are the sound engineer, light-man, gaffer, camera operator, etc.

Although these are two different categories, they have to work hand in hand to be able to make money because they all possess different skills that are useful to each other.

There are also few things that come to play if, you want to make money in filmmaking especially if you’re able to find a solution to a problem using an artistic infusion. Your reel should be about your ability to complete a task and majorly to see some of your completed works.

The film workers play a great role in making sure the scene is set, they are the lifeblood needed for the production to come alive. At first, you might have to work for free but in a short time, you will begin to earn more than you ever imagined. Making money as a film worker basically entails building your network- create a network/contact database either at a film school, through social media, while watching out for any production in your locality. Another very important thing is that you should build a strong reputation so that your name first comes to mind when there is an opportunity.

In addition, if you have stock videos you can sell them online but if you don’t have any start creating them, you can shoot an opening sequence for videos that can be used for other videos as well. They can generate passive income pending when you get a big gig.
