The word improvisation has been used in so many contexts but then in photography, we have one way of applying it to our photography processes.
Firstly, the word improvisation means finding an alternative or substitution for an original. Improvisation in photography involves the use of unavailable means or choice of photography material or ideas to achieve a particular purpose. When it comes to creativity improvisation is usually one thing that comes to play especially if you find yourself in a situation where you don’t have enough resources or materials to achieve your objective. For example, if you find yourself in a dark environment where normally a speedlight will help you brighten up your subject but you forgot your speedlight, you have to improvise by increasing your ISO and reduce your Shutter speed to get your desired results.
Another instance of improvisation is when you don’t have a studio and you want to create some kind of effects in your shoot; you can create a mini studio in the corner of your room even tho it might not be what you desire to have.
Improvisation shouldn’t be interpreted as a compromise to excellence; also, it shouldn’t be a laid-back approach to your creative expression.
