After the release of the Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera, Canon went ahead to create a whole new lens line up which is EOS RF. Although there have been about four of the RF lenses, considering the expansion of these lenses now all the lenses in that category are designed to cover the R’s full-frame sensor size with 54mm diameter and 12-pin RF mount, There’s a similar feature with the EOS M camera series which have smaller APS-C sensor size which uses EF-M lenses.
Comparing the full-frame EF lenses used in DSLR camera from Canon, the RF lenses are actually designed to respond to the shorter 200mm flange back distance of the EOS R mirrorless system by opening up the new imagining and of course resolution at a considerable amount than the normal DSLR.
Just in case you are wondering where are the EOS RF lens line-up:
Prime lens
- RF 50mm f/1.2L USM
- RF 50mm f/1.8 STM
- RF 85mm f/1.2L USM
- RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS
Prime with long focal strength
- RF 800mm f/11 STM
- RF 600mm f/11 IS STM
Zooms
- RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
- RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
- RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
- RF 28-70mm f/2L USM
- RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM
This also includes a macro lens RF 35mm f/1.8 IS STM
No one knows what’s coming up next from Canon as regards all these lenses, however, not all the lenses work for all the cameras except probably with an adaptor.
Update;
A new Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-7.1 IS USM and RF 16mm f/2.8 announcement is expected next week Tuesday, September 14th when Canon announces the latest addition to the R lineup; the EOS R3.
