It seems like only yesterday, I was writing about the GoPro Hero 9, its improved stabilization, and the new Max Lens Mod that offered an “unbeatable” horizon lock even when you rotate the camera 360 degrees, and here we are, 2021 and the GoPro Hero 10 is here.
Released late last week, the Hero 10 is an improvement over the Hero 9 with a faster processor that allows for smoother operations and makes possible the ability for the new Hero 10 to shoot 5.7K video at 60fps, 4K video at 120fps, and 2.7k video at an amazing 240fps while still offering the same great stabilization that the GoPro is known for and the horizon lock that was debuted last year except this time, without the Max Lens Mod, you can tilt the camera 45 degrees to either side and your horizon will stay level (which in all honesty is quite amazing).
The Hero10 uses a new 23-megapixel sensor that GoPro promises will include better low light performance. Additionally, GoPro has enabled the ability to pull 19.6-megapixel video stills to be pulled from 5K 4:3 video at 30 frames per second and 15.8-megapixel video stills from 5.3K video at 60 frames per second so users need not worry about stopping videos to snap pictures as they can pause their videos at any point they like and capture crisp still images using the built-in feature on the GoPro app.
My Opinion: If you’re someone who loves to show the BTS process for your video projects or photo sessions, then a GoPro is an amazing accessory to own but unless you are mountain climbing, surfing, or vlogging whilst doing some extreme sport (which I’m yet to come across here in Nigeria… DM me if you know someone who does all these), then getting the new Hero 10 is overkill, the Hero 8 does an amazing job and cost a little less whilst still delivering on great quality. But newer is better so if you can afford it, then go all out and mail me your experience(s).
