BOP had an interesting time interviewing Oluwaseun Adeniyi a wedding and documentary photographer who started his journey into photography six years ago. He is one of the many talented photographers in Nigeria carving his own lane in the photography industry. For Oluwaseun, photography is an inherited work; he got his interest from watching his father who is also a photographer. The youngest of four children, his journey into photography started out of curiosity. It was never a hobby for him, as a matter of fact, he was in Senior Secondary two, that is, high school when he knew it was a career path for him. He also saw it as a way to cure his phobia of crowds.
Here are the highlights of his interview session with BOP
Please kindly introduce yourself
My name is Oluwaseun Adeniyi, and I’m a photographer.
What does photography mean to you?
Well, everybody has his or her own meaning to photography. It all depends on how we perceive it. For me photography is the autography of specific moments in life.
What genre of photography are you into?
This question made me remember when I was trying to find my footing in photography, and a lot of people asked me, even my colleagues back then asked me the same question cause they saw me shoot all kinds of pictures until I was able to find my area of concentration. As I mentioned earlier, I am into wedding and documentary photography.
What inspires you?
I will categorically say that the circle you move with determines your inspiration and who you see as your mentor or the works you view to embolden your creativity helps creative inspiration towards photography. That’s just who I am.
What makes a good picture stand out?
To me, in-as-much as you can achieve your aim of shooting, communicate with the picture, it is a stand-out picture. So many times people just take pictures randomly without having a specific story and framing for it.
What kind of gear do you use?
I make use of DSLR Nikon camera and lenses, together with light and stands.
What steps do you take in preparing for a photoshoot?
No man is an island of knowledge, everyone relies on others somehow. This has been the very person I am, I check out already done content to create my own type of content before approaching a job. I view my mentors photography pages and colleagues to create something worth viewing for others too.
How do you connect with difficult clients?
Wow!, I have come across so many and I still have them at hand presently but one thing that has kept me going is the mutual relationship I have created. I get so frustrated that sometimes I feel regret in accepting a job but I always try to maintain a good communication and tolerance during these times with such clients. I call it trial time cause a simple mistake can spoil one’s reputation.
What editing software do you use and why?
There are so many options to pick from depending on which one is suitable for you. I make use of basic software like Photomechanic (PM), Lightroom (LR), and Photoshop (PS). These are for picture selection, colour balancing, and picture correction.
Where do you see yourself in five(5) years?
Lol, I would have grown more beards. Well, I see myself being a choice to the majority, creating impact, and a public figure in the business.
Thank you for having me Business of photography.
