If you’re a drone enthusiast like I am or you own a drone and are piloting your way to financial security, chances are you own a DJI drone and greater odds are that you’ve heard about the awesomeness that is the Mavic 2 Pro; DJI’s top line prosumer drone or might even have flown it. Well, this month, the company is announcing the drone’s successor and they did not disappoint,
If the rumours and leaks are true, DJI is planning to announce and release the Mavic 3 Pro and it’ll be the first drone system to carry dual camera system (much like smartphones in 2017) that will allow operators alternative between a telephoto lens and the standard wide angle lens system that most drones offer,
Having flown the Mavic 2 Pro myself, I’m a huge fan of the drone’s capabilities under harsh weather and the great battery life (between 23-28 minutes of fly time but compared to fly years ago, that’s actually incredible). The new incoming Mavic 3 Pro is rumored to offer about 43 minutes of flight time which is a lot better than any drone on the market offers today. It’ll feature a 144mm f/4.4 lens and a standard 24mm f/2,8-f/11 wide-angle lens. According to PetaPixel, the new Mavic 3 Pro will feature a new 4/3 sensor that will make the drone capable of shooting 5.7K video while shooting better images at night with reduced noise performance and greater dynamic range, much like the earlier released Mavic Air 2S (that was released in April this year).
The drone is also stated to have an increased control distance of 15 kilometers, improved from the 12 kilometers that the Mavic 2 Pro was capable of. All of these assumptions will be cleared up when DJI announces the drone on or before November 15, 2021.
All of this comes as Autel Robotics releases their new line of mini-sized drones; the EVO Nano, Nano+, Evo Lite, and Lite+ drones to compete against DJI’s Mini and Air series of drones. While Autel isn’t a household name yet, they do put out amazing products. As to whether these new drones will affect the popularity of the Dji Mini 2 or Air 2/Air 2S, only time will tell (Read more about that here).
