Samyang has announced a new premium lens, the XP 50mm f/1.2 for Canon EF full frame cameras. It’s a manual focus lens that’s designed for shooting 50-megapixel photos and 8K videos.
The new 50mm f/1.2 is the third lens in Samyang’s premium XP (“XPert”) lens lineup, following in the footsteps of the XP 14mm f/2.4 and XP 85mm f/1.2.
“It optimizes for portraits, capturing the delicate change of the eye at the time of a portrait, right down to a strand of hair, and bright and beautiful skin colour,” Samyang says. “You can express unconstrained depth with the bright aperture.”
“The 9-blade aperture in the lens delivers beautiful bokeh, starburst, and out-focusing effects,” the company says.
Other features and specs of the lens include 11 elements in 8 groups, a minimum focusing distance of 1.48ft (0.45m), a magnification ratio of 0.17x, a filter thread size of 86mm, a weight of 1200g (~2.65lbs), and a special “ultra multi coating” that helps combat flare and ghost effects.

The Samyang XP 50mm f/1.2 will be available in March 2018 with a price tag of €949 while it will be released in the US as the Rokinon SP 50mm f/1.2 in April 2018 with a price tag of $999.
