As photographers, Adobe Photoshop is one of the most frequently used software when it comes to post-production and image manipulation, and sometimes, right off the back or after a while, Photoshop tends to become frustratingly slow and this can be downright depressing.
Below are possible ways you can effect changes on your workstation that will inherently boost the speed of Photoshop and increase your productivity level.
- General system clean up
Saving up raw photos and PSDs on your computer is one sure way of slowing it down. The less bogged down your ROM is, the faster your RAM and processor will go through stuff to make other stuff happen (Did I say stuff too many stuffen times?). Consider moving all your files to external storage space and watch your system flow smoothly and your Photoshop work with almost no bugs at all.
- Uninstall Unuseful Applications
Over time, we stop using certain applications that we initially thought we needed like games and that weird app that made all your songs into chipmunk versions but building a stack-up of applications is bound to slow down your work station so periodically, it’s advisable to go through the applications and software that’s installed on your computer and uninstall those that you don’t use so as to leave the computer “room to breathe”. Doing this will greatly increase the efficiency of your PC.
- Graphics Card
A stronger graphics card will make a whole lot of difference as Graphics cards speed up certain system areas. Photoshop can use the acceleration of this to speed stuff like 3D and filter renders in turn saving you a lot of time.
- Update Your System Regularly.
Make sure to upgrade the operating system and frequently update your drivers as most of these updates fix slowness issues and give your system a big boost. Updating hardware when possible is also a welcomed enhancement as updated software and hardware tend to ride along smoothly together.
