STORYTELLING IN PHOTOGRAPHY

Storytelling in photography is one aspect of photography that has overtime created a partway for many photographers in their career. It is often not just about taking pictures but telling stories with those pictures. Much photographic storytelling involves capturing shots of interesting and compelling scenes and phenomena that cannot easily be explained through words. These photos either tell the story of an interesting person or persons in an overlooked environment or occupy a human rights or awareness angle by evoking stories on challenges or effects of somethings in the society or an environment.

Storytelling photography is an image that captures a moment with tension, inspiration, and emotions. It tells the story of your subject matter without using motion pictures or words.

WHY IS STORYTELLING IMPORTANT IN PHOTOGRAPHY

Usually, a simple image only gives random information or facts, while a storytelling image inspires people, makes them think, and connects with their emotions. In other words, it can have a bigger impact. It is quite challenging to create such an image that tells a unique story.

The images you capture and the story are sometimes not just about you. Perhaps you want to shine a light on a social issue or an injustice. In these situations, using images that evoke strong emotions through storytelling photography, can make social changes or compel people to change perspective about the issue.
