Street photography is conducted for art or inquiry that features unmediated chance encounters and random incidents within public and private spaces. The modernization and re-modeling of culture, places, and events are why street photography was birthed; to enable people and generations yet to be born to cherish culture, remember events, and ensure history is not neglected and forsaken.
In the 60s and 70s, the game was about creating memories, and those were the years when the laid mark of history and the world reformation started but in a subtle way. Now, things have reversed. In a world saturated with information and weighed down by monotony, it’s the moments of tranquility, individuality, and emotion that stand out.
The documentation of history by street photographers is focused on educating the coming generation about how culture and tradition were practiced, keep memories of people and how a particular place used to be, and the dangers of the street before the modernization of places and cultures. It also serves as a landmark to which memories are remembered and built. The importance of documenting history through street photography is to allow us to understand our past which would allow us to understand the present. Proper documentation of history makes us aware of past failures and enables us to do away with the toxic way of life that was in the past.
