” What is the struggle of using an Analog camera in a digital world?”. This is one of the many questions a lot of people ask me. I, in turn, have been thinking of the right answer to give. It goes without saying that using an analog camera is pretty difficult to see these days especially as technology has improved so much so that even phone cameras can take excellent pictures.
Digital cameras have made photography a lot easier, extremely easy to shoot, edit and share pictures amongst ourselves. Certainly, very few of us still wander around with analog cameras, foregoing instant gratification in favor of the analog quality of film. To shoot on film camera is very difficult, not only can it take days to see the results of photos shot on film, but the whole process of shooting is much more complicated than using a digital camera. In essence, the whole process is very cumbersome and time-consuming, although that’s what they use back in the day. Therefore, I have highlighted some struggles that will be faced if you are using an analog camera in the digital age.
- No Dark Rooms: People don’t have dark rooms anymore and it’s difficult to get one not even in this highly digitalized world. Although when I made my research and I asked questions here and there I was told that there’re few places around where they convert film to digital images, but it’s time-consuming.
- You Can’t Shoot Events With Analog: The certainty of shooting an event using an analog (film) camera is likely to be impossible, yes it was used back in the day however, there’s a change in the photography world; digital photography has overtaken and photographers are used to digital cameras.
- Bad Shot Requires New Frame Film: Unlike a digital camera where any bad shot can be deleted and retaken. On analog, any bad shot will cost a waste of frame and money. Most films in analog cameras have limited storage space for shoots so once you take a bad shot that particular frame is wasted.
