In July, We reported that Profoto has updated its AirX app to sync iPhones with B10 Strobes and allow photographers the full power of a strobe for mobile photography and now, the folks at FStoppers.com have put it to the test and the results are just… WOW!
This sets a new precedence as mobile phones were only capable of so much prior to this and while this doesn’t mean iPhone users will start replacing photographers any time soon (You first have to have either the Profoto B10 or B10 Plus, and they cost over $1,000), it does mean that development is happening.
The images from the shoot are just stunning and the sync between phone and flash was seamless. The app is reportedly able to pair with the flash and light up scenes with shutter speeds as fast as 1/25,000 (even though it’s unclear why you’d ever need a shutter that fast). You can watch the full test and get a feel of the images for yourself below:
Profoto had earlier created the C1 and C1 Plus Flash for smartphone photographers but opening up the B10 to mobile photography creates a chance for much more to be done for those who already know those strobes or are looking into getting one.
