While a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens is often the workhorse of choice for a range of scenarios ranging from event, landscape, and a couple of other genres of photography, the 70mm can sometimes feel a little short when you are on a trip or a walk with your camera. An alternative is the 24-105mm or 24-120mm f/4 lens, which trades a stop of aperture for more reach and often, a much lower price. They have been controversy over the zooms 24-70mm f/2.8 options. No doubt, they have their place, especially in low-light situations like weddings and events, but that extra reach has always been much more useful and compositionally. They also tend to be about half the price of a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, so consider if your work (and wallet) would be better suited by one! Check out the video below for Irwin’s full thoughts on the lens.
