Earlier in September, Sony teased its upcoming Cinema Camera lineup (FX6, FX9, and Venice Cinema Camera) and word then was that the FX6 would ship this year, and keeping true to their word, Sony has released the new FX6 Compact Cinema camera but it’s not available for preorder at this moment.
The camera was shipped to select Cinematographers and Reviewers like Matti Haapoja, Gene Nagata (Potato Jet), Gerald Undone, amongst others and their collective review of the new compact cinema camera promises great things. Priced at $6,000 (Almost identical to the upcoming Canon C70), the new FX6 is capable of 4K video at 120 frames per second, comes with a full-frame sensor (unlike most cinema cameras that come with Super 35mm sensors), has Dual Gain ISO capabilities at ISO 800 and 12,800 for noiseless footage and has an inbuilt Neutral Density filter system from ND 2 to ND 7 with that automatic system that allows you change your aperture while the camera automatically adjusts the ND system to maintain a perfectly exposed image.
According to Gene Nagata, the FX6 can be likened to the recently released A7S III but with better colour science and increased bells and whistles. The camera will be available before the end of 2020. Click below to watch the full review:
Sony is expected to make an announcement about their upcoming cinema line-up later next month or early 2021.
