A good 50mm lens is one of the most versatile you can own, able to tackle everything from portraits to low-light events coverage and more. The Viltrox AF 50mm f/1.8 offers an upgrade over the cheapest nifty fifty lenses without touching the prices of top-shelf options, making it an intriguing option for photographers. Viltrox 50mm f 1.8 lens has a very similar design to the other full-frame Viltrox autofocus lenses. The size of the lens is the average size for a 50mm f1.8 mirror primeless. The body of this Viltrox lens includes the lens mount made of metal, there’s no mention of a weather seal and rubber seal on the lens mount. Maybe this is not a weatherproof lens.
Viltrox is a brand that over time offers affordable lenses and good image quality. With other interesting options such as impressive sharpness even wide open, which alone could make it a worthwhile upgrade over the standard sub-$100 nifty fifty and could leave a lot more room for the photographer to grow with the lens. And at $379, it does not hit the wallet quite as hard as top 50mm lenses, which often can exceed $1,000. And while those often offer an f/1.4 or f/1.2 maximum aperture, it is worth remembering that the difference between f/1.8 and f/1.4 is less than a stop, and with today’s high-ISO performance, you probably won’t miss it much.
