I’ve been preoccupied with exams since the start of January but with the start of a new month comes a bit of freedom and that freedom has come with exploratory opportunities that I plan to fully utilize.
At the start of every year, I take out time to reflect on my journey as a photographer, where it’s taken me and the route I hope to explore and this year will be no different (Read about last year’s resolution here). I sort out to expand my bounds of knowledge in 2021 and that journey was wholesome; I became a better product photographer and started officially shooting for various brands [mostly skincare], my return to basics policy helped reignite the love I had/have for photography and in that vein, I’m dumping the basics antics and going full nerd in the coming months as the new goals are to seek out ways to be more daring with the images I create hence the entire dramatic title card.
Photography like most art forms is subject to change, to modification. These changes might not be as originally intended by the artist but if you don’t change, then there’s never an opportunity to change new things, test new waters, and grow as an artist or creative (whatever language suits your earbuds). Maybe the areas I’ll be exploring this year would stick or maybe it will just be another stop on the long journey but the journey is more important than the destination.
I guess the entire reason I’m writing this is to inspire someone who is scared of taking that next step and exploring the unknown. Art is subjective, there’s never a definite end to growth so try a new thing. Sometimes it may be good, sometimes it may be but the trial process will be fun and that’s what it’s all about; Having fun and growing.
See you all mid-year with an update on how this is going.
