There are various approaches or techniques used by photographers, there is double exposure and we also have multiple exposure. These techniques are not verily explored, however, a few photographers are now waking up to the challenges creativity poses on them.
Double exposure is another creative technique used by photographers to create a surreal feeling, this is a technique that layers two different exposures on a single image, combining two single images into one and the two photographs can work together to convey a meaningful story or symbol. While multiple exposure is when you combine more than two exposures into a single image.
How do you create a double exposure for a new perspective as a photographer? Well, you do not require any special skill to do this, all that is required is a little manipulation on your camera then you’re set for a double/multiple exposure.
- Always start with a theme for your double exposure project: By doing this, you already have an idea of what you’re shooting. Chose a theme you know you can overcome without many hurdles, like a photo series on a family, plants, architecture, etc. Something you can be committed to and you can complete in due time.
- Use a shutter release cable: This allows you to take pictures easily without stress, a cable release is a shutter button on a hand unit that can be attached to a camera by a short cable.
- Shoot against any seamless backdrop: The seamless backdrop could be something the sky, a white clothe will help you achieve the double exposure effect.
- Underexpose your image/subject: This makes your image properly exposed even at the final output.
- Apply the Tilt-shift effect: There are lenses that do such but with the tilt-shift tool in photoshop you can achieve double exposure on your image giving it the soft work of art.
