The question of ‘What makes a good image’ in photography is the most commonly asked question especially by young enthusiasts starting off their careers as photographers. A good image is not an impossible task to achieve and with examples of amazing photographers in the imaging industry it is evident that it’s not an impossible task.

To get and create amazing and good images, there are principles and guidelines that photographers need to follow and with constant practice, one can become an amazing photographer. Below are a couple of things photographers and image enthusiasts need to follow to create amazing images.

  • UNDERSTANDING OF THE EXPOSURE TRIANGLE: This is the basis of learning that every photographer needs to understand. The Exposure Triangle comprises the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. These three work together and control and regulate the amount of light that gets into the camera, not forgetting that the definition of photography is drawing with light. Hence, understanding all of these three factors would aid in creating great and amazing images.
  • UNDERSTAND LIGHTING: Understanding lighting and light source and the use of artificial lights to light up your subject determine the result of your image. Great lighting technique is key to great Images
  • STORYTELLING: Some of the greatest images simply tell a story. Rather than relying on great composition or featuring other unique characteristics, they instead focus on storytelling. This is important, especially for documentary, event and wedding photography. Once you have understood every other factor it’s important that you tell great stories

  • COMPOSITION:  The arrangement of your subject, elements and relationships between the elements of a photo, and the subjects that you emphasize, deemphasize, or exclude completely is key to creating a good image. The aim of composition is to see how to convey the beauty or emotions scene perfectly into your image. Composition in photography is how to create good images.
