In the last decade, photography has seen tremendous growth from almost every angle with giant strides made in the advancement of sensor technology, the dawn of the mirrorless era, the rise (and fall) of various companies, and the growth of the accessories industry.
Asides from the leap in camera technology, the lighting industry has also seen huge improvements. Less heating, faster recycling time for portable flashes and studio strobes, and recently, the rise of RGB LEDs in the photography scene. LEDs at the start were simply relegated to the video world but more and more every day, they seem to be more LEDs built with photography in mind. To take off the major difference, LEDs are a continuous form of light whilst Studio strobes or flash simply let off a single burst of light and then go off. There are many advantages to using both and in this video, Karl Taylor a seasoned photographer, and educator talks about their differences, how they affect the image-making process and why you should pick one over the other.
The 15-minute video goes through a real light scenario of the major differences using a light meter and gives anyone (especially beginner photographers) an idea of how both light sources affect your style of photography.
